1. Goals and objectives
1.1. Further development and
popularization of active and healthy life-style, mountain climbing, skyrunning
and ski mountaineering in Russia.
1.2. Increase of sport skills.
1.3. Determination of the strongest sportsmen.
2. Date and place
Race terms:
May 6 - 11, 2012. The competitions take place on the Elbrus peak, the highest
top of Russia and Europe, which is 12 km from the Main Caucasian range. The
cone-shaped volcanic mountain and mountainsides with ice shelves over 3000 m create an original
mountain stadium.
3. Organization committee
3.1. The competitions are held
according to the Unified calendar of the interregional Russian and
international sport events of the Russian Ministry of Sports and Tourism.
3.2. The main control of Festival's organization is realized by the Festival's Organization
committee. The immediate guidance is entrusted to the Festival's Director.
3.3. Festival's Organization committee is formed by the Russian Mountaineering Federation
with the concurrence of the Red Fox Company.
On agreement
the following persons enter in the Festival's Organization committee: authorized
representatives of the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the
Russian Federation; the Government of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria; the Committee for Matters Concerning Young Persons, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of
Kabardino-Balkaria; ISF; Russian Mountaineering Federation, Festival's Director
and other interested parties and organizations.
3.4. The immediate carrying out of the competitions is entrusted to the main
panel of judges. The main panel of judges is headed by the chief judge of the
Festival. He forms the main panel of judges by agreement with the Organization
committee.

4. Participants and
race rules
The competitions are carried out in 4 disciplines:
1. 2012 Skyrunner® World Series: Vertical Kilometer® - Mt Elbrus, 2450-3450 m. Russian Skyrunner
Championship, qualification. The route lies from Glade Azau to Mir
station.
2. High-speed run to the West
Elbrus Peak
in 2 classes:
- Vertical SkyRace® - Mt Elbrus, 2350-5642 m. Russian Skyrunner Championship.
Route: Glade Azau (2350 m)
- Mir station (3450 m)-
«Barrels» (3780 m)
- Pastuhov Rocks (4800 m)
- Saddle (5350 m)
- West Elbrus Peak
(5642 m).
- Nonprofessional class. Classic route:
«Barrels» (3780 м) - Pastuhov
Rocks (4800 m)
- Saddle (5350 m)
- West Elbrus Peak
(5642 m).
3. Elbrus Open Ski-mountaineering Cup: personal race. Men, women.
4. Snow-shoes race. The
route lies from Krugozor station to Mir station (3000-3450 m).
Fee for
each competition is 13 Euro. If a sportsman participates in all competitions,
the fee is 38 Euro.
Participation
in Vertical Kilometer® is allowed for all participants with mountaineering
experience on ice and snow peaks.
Participation
in Vertical Kilometer® is obligatory for competitors in Vertical SkyRace® - Mt
Elbrus.
Participation in Vertical SkyRace® - Mt Elbrus is allowed for all participants
with mountaineering experience on ice and snow peaks. The winner's time is
determined from start to the gate on the peak. The participants have to reach
the gate without assistance and to come down to the start place until 16:00.
Otherwise, if a participant receives assistance or reaches the start place
later than 16.00, the result is annulled. The control point on the saddle should
be passed until 12:00. If the control time is exceeded, the participant will be
dismissed. It's prohibited to use any transport, skis and assistance.
All participants can take
part in the snow-shoes race.
Ski-mountaineering
competitions are allowed for all sportsmen with mountaineering experience or
experience in ski and mountain ascents. The competitions are put in 1 lap: M's,
W's personal race.
It's prohibited
to use dope medications. The sportsman can be disqualified for the breaking
this rule!!!
All participants should
have medical admission.
Attention! The sportsmen
without official medical admission will not be admitted to the competitions!!!

19:00 Briefing of the Elbrus Vertical Kilometer®, 2450-3450 m (2012 Skyrunner®
World Series).
7th May
9:00 Skyrunner® World Series: Vertical Kilometer® - Mt Elbrus 2450-3450 m. Russian Skyrunner
Championship, qualification. Glade Azau (2450 m) - Mir station (3450 m).
14:00 nauguration of the Festival. Awarding ceremony of the winners of the
Elbrus Vertical Kilometer®.
15:30 Press-conference.
19:00 Briefing of the ski-mountaineering personal race.
8th May
9-00 Elbrus Open Ski-mountaineering Cup: personal race.
13-00 Awarding ceremony of the winners of the ski-mountaineering personal race.
15-30 he participants of the high-speed run (Nonprofessional class) and the
judges go up to the "Barrels" (Garabashi).
19-00 Briefing of the Elbrus Vertical SkyRace® (2012 SkyRace® Series).
9th May
7-00 Elbrus Vertical SkyRace® (2012 SkyRace® Series). Russian Skyrunner
Championship.
20-00 Briefing of the snow-shoes race.
10th May
11-00 Snow-shoes race.
16-00 Awarding ceremony of the winners of the Elbrus Vertical SkyRace® and of
the snow-shoes race.
Closing ceremony of the Festival.
11th May
Reserve day.
The decision about Vertical SkyRace® - Mt Elbrus will be reached at 06:00 a.m.
on 9th May according to the weather conditions.
6. Determination of the
winners
The winners are determined by the best time on the routes.
7. Awards
The winners and prizemen receive diploma, prize money and valuable prizes from
organizers and sponsors.
8. Applications
The preliminary applications should be sent by e-mail in the attached excel
file. E-mail: elbrus@redfox.ru. It's obligatory to indicate last name, age
and discipline of the competitions and qualification.
The preliminary
applications are accepted until 25th April 2012 with obligatory confirmation.
Also the participant can
make an application on the race place (without the special services like food,
accommodation, transfer, etc.)
9. Competitors agreement and safety
All the competitions are held according to the approved regulations.
Each participant has to be aware of certain risks related to participation
in Elbrus ascent, Vertical kilometer and ski-mountaineering competitions.
The participants are responsible for their own health and safety. The
organizers provide the first aid in an emergency situation.
The race organizers examine the route and provide the safety equipment (e.g.
rail) if necessary.
The participant's appearance at start implies sufficient physical health and
mountaineering skills for taking part in the competitions.
The participant should take into account the real weather conditions and
route state.
The participant's equipment has to meet the safety requirements and race
rules.
The organization committee reserves the right to cancel or change
competitions schedule according to weather or another conditions.
This regulation is a challenge for the competitions.
