Festival Red Fox Elbrus Race 2010 will take place on May 8-12, 2010

Red Fox Company together with Russian Mountaineering Federation supported by Russian Emergency Ministry, Government of the Kabardino-Balkaria and ISF organizes Red Fox Elbrus Race festival on May 8-12, 2010.

The competition will take place on the Elbrus peak, the highest top of the Europe and the most popular Russian mountain region.

The Red Fox Elbrus Race will take place for the third time in 2010. Each year the festival gathers over 80 best mountaineers, skiers and multisportsmen form Russia, Australia, Austria, Spain, New Zealand, Switzerland, Kirghizia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Ukraine, etc.

A new discipline will be introduced to the festival program this year. For the first time in Russia the Vertical Kilometer – one of most famous sky running disciplines in the world -  will take place. These competitions are organised to bring together the conditions of their realization in different parts of the world – the vertical height 1 km on the distance not exceeding 5 km on heights from 0 – 1,000 m, 1,000 – 2,000 m, 2,000-3,000 m or 2,500-3,000 m. Vertical Kilometer on Elbrus mountain will be from glade Azau to the Mir station.

According to Festival Director Evgeniy Kolchanov, this discipline will attract a lot of new Russian and foreign participants. «Elbrus is an unpredictable peak, very difficult due to its weather conditions and height. Even simply participating in traditional race takes a great deal of courage and objective estimation of one’s potential. And Vertical Kilometer will allow the participants with less experience to take part in the festival».

Vertical Kilometer is by no doubt a flashy innovation, but there are more disciplines that arouse interest such as Open Cup of ski mountaineering, snow-shoes race and of course the main event of the festival – Vertical SkyRace® - Mt Elbrus, which will take place on the 10th of May. This will be the third year of the race and it keeps attracting more and more participants who are eager to conquer the highest peak of Europe.

Red Fox Elbrus Race – is not just a sport competition, but a festival, which gives an opportunity to meet legendary mountain climbers and sky runners, multisportsmen and people keen on adventures, to share experience and to get the inspiration for new greater achievements.
