1. Goals and objectives
Development and popularisation of mountain climbing and ski mountaineering in Russia.
Raising of sport mastery and skills.
Determination of the strongest sportsmen.
2. Date and place
Race terms: May 15 - 18, 2008. The competitions take place on the Elbrus peak, the highest top of the Europe, that is 12 km from the Main Caucasian range. The right form of the volcanic mountain and mountainsides with ice shelves over 3000m create the peculiar mountain stadium.
3. Organization committee
Organizers - Red Fox company and Russian Mountaineering Federation. The immediate preparation and carrying out of the race are entrusted by the main panel of judges.

4. Participants and race rules
The competitions are put in 4 disciplines:
1. High-speed heat to the West Elbrus Peak. Classic route: «Bochki» — Pastuhov rocks — Sedlo – West Elbrus (5642 m).
2. Heat on the snow-shoes. The place will be specified according to the route state on competition day.
3. Ski–mountaineering. Short route.
4. Ski–mountaineering. Long route.
High-speed heat is allowed for participants, which have the experience of mountaineering ascents. The winner’s time is determined from start to reaching the gate on the peak. The participants have to reach the gate without assistance and to come down to the start place until 16:00. Only in this case it’s considered, that the sportsman has crossed the finish line. Otherwise the result will be annulled. The control point on the col should be passed until 12:00. If the control time is exceeded, the participant will be dismissed. It’s prohibited to use any transport, skis and assistance.
All participants can take part in heat on the snow-shoes.
Ski–mountaineering is allowed for participants, which have the experience of mountaineering, ski and mountain ascents. The competitions are put in 2 laps: short vertical race and long personal race (rally format). According to the short race’s results the panel of judges can forbid to take part in the main race for sportsmen with low training. It’s prohibited to use dope medications. The sportsman can be disqualified for the breaking this rule.
All participants should have medical admission.
Attention! The sportsmen without official medical admission will not be admitted to the competitions!!!
5. Program
14th May 19-00 registration. Glade Azau. Hotel "Vershina".
15th May 10-30 race opening ceremony. Glade Azau. Continuation of registration.
12-00 friendly march among the officials of Kabardino-Balkaria region.
16th May 7-00 high-speed heat to the West Elbrus Peak. Start: Garabashi, «Bochki», 3700 m.
17th May 11-00 short vertical race. Start: Elbrus mountainsides.
Heat on the snow-shoes. Start: Garabashi, «Bochki», 3700 m.
18th May 8-00 long personal race (rally format). Start place is specified according to the route state on the race day.
18-00 Awarding. Closing ceremony.
6. Determination of the winners
The winners are determinated under the best time on the routes.
7. Awards
The winners and prizemen receive diploma and valuable prizes from orginizers and sponsors. The prize fund of the competitions is 4000$.
High-speed heat to the West Elbrus Peak: 1st place - 1000$, 2nd place - 600$, 3d place- 400$
Heat on the snow-shoes: 1st place - 200$, 2nd place - 150$, 3d place - 100$
Ski–mountaineering. Short route: 1st place - 250$, 2nd place - 150$, 3d place - 100$
Ski–mountaineering. Long route: 1st place - 600$, 2nd place - 300$, 3d place - 200$.
8. Applications
The preliminary applications should be sent by e-mail in the attached file. E-mail: elbrus@redfox.ru. It’s obligatory to indicate last name, age, discipline of the competitions and qualification.
The preliminary applications are accepted until 20 April 2008 with obligatory confirmation.
Also the participant can make an application on the race place (without the special services (food, accommodation, transfer, etc.))
9. Competitors agreement and safety
Each participant has to realize completely risks, that are connected with Elbrus ascent and ski–mountaineering.
The participants are responsible for their own health and safety. The organizers provide the first aid in an emergency.
The race organizers examine the route and provide the rail insurance necessarily.
The participant’s appearance at start means it’s sufficient physical health and mountaineering skills for taking part in the competitions.
The participant should take into account the real weather conditions and route state.
The equipment has to meet the safety requirements and race rules.
The organization committee reserves the right to cancel or change competitions schedule in according to the weather or another conditions.
This regulation is the challenge on the competitions.
